At the end of last year the Government published a consultation about the powers an elected Mayor should have.
In my 20-page response I argued that there are huge swathes of decisions taken by and budgets spent by central government in London which must be devolved to Birmingham. I believe that solutions that work for Birmingham should be made here in Birmingham.

Here is the four-page summary of my response in pdf and this is the word version of that same summary.
And this is the full 20-page consultation response on the powers of elected Mayors that I submitted to the Government at the beginning of January.
I’d like to hear what you think about an elected Mayor for Birmingham and what you think about the extra powers and budgets I’ve suggested an elected Mayor should have.
Do you think Birmingham could achieve more with these powers and an elected Mayor? Do you think there is anything I have missed?

Many people have asked me questions about elected Mayors. So I have produced an FAQ How would an elected Mayor in Birmingham work? Click here for the word version.
